First off..........
Let me introduce
myself--I am the queen of dumpster diving. My career as a dumpster diver
began as a young child, thanks to my Grandmother, who introduced me to the
art, and skillfully trained me to search and rescue perfectly good
discards from dumpsters and curbside trash cans, (thus the name
"Curbside Couture"). Grandma was a true GEM. She's in
Heaven now, but when I stumble upon that gem in a junk pile, I can feel her
standing right next to me, cheering me on. In honor of Grandma, I have
since added garage sales, thrift stores, and flea markets to my list of
favorites.....Grandma would be so proud!
Who the heck is Curbside Couture?
I am an artist ~ ~
heart and soul ~ ~ I collect and create. I am also a
fashion designer with a passion for beautiful vintage textiles with
which I create one-of-a-kind wearable art.
How long have you been in the
business?
I still have an old red stuffed
dog from when I was just a year old. I think that spawned the most
obsessive collection of textiles this side of the Mississippi.
Since I was around to witness Woodstock and the first man on the moon, you
can safely bet that I'm over 30 ~ ~ which means my collections span
30-40 years. Ok, so I'm way over 30.
What is your specialty?
I am a Jackie of all trades,
but master of none. I love it all. I am inspired by vintage
and a slave to modern fashion. So how does one choose? Rather
than limit my wardrobe and yours, I chose both. I don't wear vintage
every day, but I often combine my every-day wardrobe with vintage
accessories. It's a rare occasion when I'm not complimented on my
attire, so I must be doing something right.
Q. Where are you
located?
A. Edgewood, New
Mexico-USA
